Holy One, whose fingers sculpted sun and moon;
Holy Spirit, who brooded over the waters of creation;
Holy Word, who lives in us;

Prayers of the People (adapted from Susan Sayers)

The mystery of God – Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier all at once – is beyond our human understanding, yet closer to us than breathing.

Leader: Called by the great God we worship, let us pray fervently for the Church and for the world.

Leader: In our Diocesan calendar of prayer, we pray today for St. Columba, Ottawa, and the Rev. Ken Spears. For the Director of Financial Ministry, Sanjay Grover. In our Companion Diocese of Jerusalem, we pray for The Penman Clinic, Zebabdeh. We pray for John, our bishop, Arran, our priest, and Allan, our honorary assistant. We pray for all clergy and people.

People: We bring before you, O God, the needs of the Church, in its weakness and its potential; revive and refresh us, teach and direct us, inspire all who preach, teach, and gossip the good news, and uphold all who suffer for their faith in any way. (Silence)

Leader: God of mystery and compassion:

People: you know us and you love us.

Leader: We bring before you, O God, the particular problems of our age and our culture; renew in us a commitment to community and mutual trust, give a sense of value to all who despise others and themselves; protect the vulnerable and sensitize the hearts of all who have become anesthetised by images of violence. (Silence)

Leader: God of mystery and compassion:

People: you know us and you love us.

Leader: We bring before you, O God, the nurturing of our children and young people, in homes and parenting, schools and teaching, in the expectations, pressures, and dangers, in the hopes and possibilities for good. (Silence)

Leader: God of mystery and compassion:

People: you know us and you love us.

Leader: We bring before you, O God, the hungry and malnourished, the greedy and complacent; those who are ill and those who care for them; the unhappy and those who comfort them; all who are undergoing surgery or painful treatment, and all who have no one to turn to. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and those we name silently or aloud. (Silence)

Leader: God of mystery and compassion:

People: you know us and you love us.

Leader: We bring before you, O God, those who have died in faith and will now see you face to face; those for whom death speaks of fear and annihilation, and those who are unprepared to meet you. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and those we name silently or aloud. (Silence)

Leader: God of mystery and compassion:

People: you know us and you love us.

Leader: We bring before you, O God, our lives and all that we are, including our successes and our failures; we thank you for the gift of life and ask that we may get to know you more deeply day after day. (Silence)

Leader: Merciful God,

People: accept these prayers in the name of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Offertory Hymn: Lord, You Give the Great Commission                 #433

Prayer over the Gifts

Holy God, gracious and merciful,
you bring forth food from the earth
and nourish your whole creation.
Turn our hearts toward those
who hunger in any way,
so that all may know your care;
and prepare us now to feast on the bread of life,
Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Amen.

The Communion

Anthem: O Taste and See by Ralph Vaughan Williams

O taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man that trusteth in him

Prayer after Communion

God of abundance,
with this bread of life and cup of salvation
you have united us with Christ,
making us one with all your people.
Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit,
so that we may proclaim your redeeming love to the world
and continue forever in the risen life of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
