Welcome to Trinity!  If this is your first visit, please note that we do not take a collection during the service, but your offering may be placed on the plate at the back of the church as you enter or leave.  Also, there are many occasions during the service where we stand for lengthy periods.  If you are more comfortable sitting or kneeling, please feel free to do so.

Gradual Hymn: O Lord, As You Were On Your Way  (tune #455)

O Lord, as you were on your way to where you’d one day die,
You wanted time to rest and pray, to hear God’s word to you that day.
You climbed a mountain high with three good friends close by.

So soon, the three became aware of such a wondrous sight.
Your face shone bright beyond compare, just like a glimpse of heaven there!
Your clothes were dazzling white; your glory came to light.

The Law, the Prophets guided you as you discerned God’s will.

With Moses and Elijah, too, you spoke of God’s great plan for you,
God’s promise to fulfill one Friday on a hill.

Celebrant: The Lord be with you

People:   And also with you.

Celebrant: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,

               according to Mark 9: 2-9                               (N.T. page 44)

People:   Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ…

Celebrant: …The Gospel of Christ.

People:   Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ,

Gradual Hymn     (cont’d)

Why could you not remain with them and there in glory stay?
God said, “This is my own dear Son! Now listen to him, everyone!”

And so you turned to say you’d go the harder way.

O Lord, how often we pursue success at any cost,
And yet we hear God’s word anew, that we are called to follow you,
Who served the poor and lost and journeyed to the cross.

The Prayers of the People:

Leader: The word of God calls us to see that all the places and occasions of the world, even places of sorrow and death, are transfigured by the presence of the glory of God in Christ Jesus.

People: Let us now call to mind all who are in any need and commend them to God’s transforming care.

Leader: In our Diocese we pray today for St. John’s, Quyon, St. Luke’s, Eardley and for the visitors, volunteers, chaplain and staff of the Anglican Social Services – Centre 454.  In our Companion Diocese of Jerusalem we pray for Holy Family Episcopal Church, Raineh.  For the needs of the whole Church that we name silently or aloud (silence). For John our bishop, for all bishops, for Andrea our Priest, for all the clergy and people.  For preachers and teachers of the light-bearing word of Christ, we pray to you O Lord.

People: For the church and its leaders, formed by the life-giving word of Christ, we pray to you O Lord.

Leader: Within our Parish we pray for the sick and the suffering, especially (insert names), and for those we name silently or aloud (silence).  For those who are alone, for widows and widowers and orphans, we pray to you O Lord.

People: For the imprisoned, for those whose only home is the streets, and for those caught by addiction, we pray to you O Lord.

Leader: For the hungry, for those who cannot feed their children, and for the unemployed, we pray to you O Lord.

People: For refugees, for the victims of warfare, and for those held in poverty by racial discrimination, we pray to you O Lord.

Leader: For the people of our nation, our city, and our community, we pray to you O Lord.

People: For this assembly, feeding on the word of Christ, we pray to you O Lord.

Leader: We remember those who have died, especially (insert names), and for those we name silently or aloud (silence).  For all those who have lived lives of faith, we pray to you O Lord.

People: With Moses and Elijah and all the people of God, with the church throughout the ages bearing witness to the great light of God shining in dark places, we commend to you all for whom we pray, O merciful God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
