We Respond to God’s Word

Prayers of the People (Adapted from Susan Sayers)

God’s wisdom may appear foolishness without the God-given grace to understand.
Leader: As we gather, conscious of our need of wisdom, let us pray to our wise and loving God for St. Mary’s, Russell, The Rev. Lee Lambert, St. Bernard-de-Clairvaux, The Rev. Mark Whittall. We pray for John, our bishop, Arran, our priest and for all clergy and people and their ministries in the Diocese of Ottawa.

People: God, in all the decision-making, problems and challenges of our church, we ask your counsel and encouragement; in all our worship and outreach, we invite you to lead us. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and loving God:

People: quieten us to hear your voice.

Leader: God, in all the clashes of needs and wants, the half-forgotten hurts that drive aggression, the half-remembered grievances, barbed with revenge, in all the world’s raging and protesting, sink your spirit of peace and reconciliation. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and loving God:

People: quieten us to hear your voice.

Leader: God, in the daily batch of misunderstandings, conflicting loyalties, negotiations and compromise, walk among us in our homes and places of work, whispering sanity and mutual respect. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and loving God:

People: quieten us to hear your voice.

Leader: God, in those engulfed by pain or enslaved by addiction, bring hope and healing; bless all those whose minds think simply and rely on others for basic care. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud.  (Silence)

Leader: Wise and loving God

People: quieten us to hear your voice.

Leader: God, gather into your keeping for ever all who have left this life in your friendship; we pray too for those approaching death that they may know your love surrounding them across time and eternity. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and loving God

People: quieten us to hear your voice

Leader: God in all our wondering and wandering, we thank you for your patience with us and your understanding of our journey.

Leader: Merciful God,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
