The Prayers of the People

Leader: We pray for the Church throughout the world, and in our Diocese we pray today St. James’, Morrisburg, St. John the Baptist, Iroquois, Holy Trinity, Riverside Heights, and for the work of the Ottawa Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund. In our Companion Diocese of Jerusalem we pray for The Episcopal Home for Children, Ramallah, Palestine.  For John our bishop, for all bishops, for Arran our Priest and for all the clergy and people.  Hear our prayers for all in need. We pray for the sick and the suffering, especially (insert names), and those we name silently or aloud (pause).  We remember those who have died, especially (insert names), and those we name silently or aloud (pause).  God has searched for us to teach us how to search for one another.

People: That we may learn to live in God’s new Jerusalem, generous with life.

Leader: You come to us unarmed. May we never use you as a way to war, 0 God.

People: You come to us penniless. May we never use you as a way to wealth, 0 God.

Leader: You come to us innocent. May we never use you as a way to corruption, 0 God.

People: May we use your peaceful self as a way to make peace, 0 God.

Leader: May we use your penniless self as a way to beg for alms, 0 Lord.

People: May we use your innocent self as a way of curing sin, 0 Lord.

Leader: Shame us out of arrogance, 0 Lord, arrogance of power and place.

People: Win us with the love you have for the least of things, 0 Lord.

Leader: It would be a joy for us to be as you are, 0 Lord, toward the least of things on earth.

Leader: We ask for your peacefulness, your humility, your innocence, both for ourselves, and for all the world. For there is no going home to you without our brothers and sisters, and through Christ our Lord. Amen.
