We Respond to God’s Word

Homily

The Prayers of the People:

Leader: We are baptized to lift up, day by day, all the needy of the world to God.

People: Let us pray for all who are in need.

Leader: In our own Diocese of Ottawa we pray today for St. George’s, Fitzroy Harbour, St. Thomas’, Woodlawn, St. James, Carleton Place, and for the visitors, volunteers and staff of The Ottawa Pastoral Centre. In our Companion Diocese of Jerusalem we pray for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Bir Zeitl. For the needs of the whole Church that we name silently or aloud (silence). For John our Bishop, for all bishops, for Andrea our Priest, for all the clergy and people.

People: For the church, that all who have found God’s promise in the waters of baptism may enter gladly into the testing time of Lent.

Leader: For the church, that the catechumens preparing for Easter baptism, and all those who are studying the Word of God and learning to be disciples, may walk with us in these forty days and know God’s reign.

People: For our world, that all living creatures may find goodness on the earth, our home, where life and death may both be God’s blessing.

Leader: For deliverance, that in the wastelands made by our greed and indifference we may fast from evil and grow hungry for justice.

People: For ourselves in this assembly that we may strain forward toward Easter remembering our call to be faithful servants.

Leader: Within our Parish we pray for the sick and the suffering, especially (insert names), and for those we name silently or aloud (silence), we pray to you O Lord. We remember those who have died, especially (insert names), for those we name silently or aloud (silence).  For all who gather here that we might caring for our sick and needy, remember those who have died, and believe that in our every deed the good news is spread.

People: God of wild beasts and of angels, of waters and wilderness, remember us; remember all whom we remember; remember the covenant you made with every living creature, for that is our bond with you now and forever. Amen.

The Communion and Anointing

Communion Hymn: Lead Me To the Cross

How can I be free from sin?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus
From the guilt, the power, the pain?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus

There’s no other way
No price that I could pay
Simply to the cross I cling
This is all I need
This is all I plead
That his blood was shed for me

How can I know peace within?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus
Sing a song of joy again!
Lead me to the cross of Jesus

Flowing from above
All-forgiving love
From the Father’s heart to me!
What a gift of grace
His own righteousness
Clothing me in purity!

How can I live day by day?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus
Following his narrow way?
Lead me to the cross of Jesus
