We Gather As God’s People

Opening Hymn: They’ll Know We Are Christians

1. We are one in the Spirit,
we are one in the Lord,
We are one in the Spirit
we are one in the Lord,
And we pray that all unity
may one day be restored:

Refrain: And they’ll know we are Christians
By our love, by our love,
Yes, they’ll know we are Christians
        By our love.

2. We will walk with each other
we will walk hand in hand
we will walk with each other
we will walk hand in hand
and together we’ll spread the news
that God is in our land… Refrain

3. We will work with each other
we will work side by side
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
And we’ll guard each one’s dignity
and save each one’s pride… Refrain

4. All Praise to the Father
from whom all things come,
And all praise to Christ Jesus
His only Son,
and all praise to the Spirit
who makes us all one… Refrain

Gradual Hymn: Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness

1. You moved on the waters, You called to the deep,

Then You coaxed up the mountains. From the valley of sleep,

And over the eons You called to each thing,

“A wake from your slumbers and rise on your wings.”…Refrain

        Refrain: Spirit, spirit of gentleness.

Blow through the wilderness, calling and free.

Spirit, spirit of restlessness. Stir me from placidness.

        Wind, wind on the sea.

2. You swept through the dessert, You stung with the sand,

And You gifted your people With a law and a land,

And when they were blinded With their idols and lies,

Then You spoke through Your prophets To open their eyes. …Refrain

3. You sang in a stable, You cried from a hill,

Then You whispered in silence When the whole world was still,

And down in the city You called once again

When You blew through Your people On the rush of the wind…. Refrain

Celebrant: The Lord be with you

People:   And also with you.

Celebrant: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,

               according to John 15:26-27, 16:4b-15    (N.T. pg. 110)

People:   Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ…

Celebrant: …The Gospel of Christ.

People:   Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Gradual Hymn   (cont’d)

4. You call from tomorrow, You break ancient schemes,

From the bondage of sorrow The captives dream dreams;

Our women see visions, Our men clear their eyes.

With bold new decisions Your people arise…. Refrain

Homily

The Prayers of the People:

Leader: In the peace of the risen Christ let us offer our prayers to the Lord.  We pray today for St. James the Apostle, Manotick, for the Military Chaplains of our Diocese, and for the Director of Financial Ministry. In our Companion Diocese of Jerusalem we pray for All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Beirut.  As we move forward in our GIFT campaign, we pray O God that we remember that it is from you that every gift derives. You taught us that to serve you is to serve others.  We ask that you continue to bless and sanctify the Growing in Faith Together campaign as an act of our faithfulness to you and that you will lead us to continue growing in faith together. For the needs of the whole Church that we name silently or aloud (silence). For John our Bishop, for all bishops, for Andrea our Priest, for all the clergy and people.

People: The Spirit of peace has been breathed on the church. May the church inspire peace throughout the world.

Leader: Our land has completed the passover from winter into spring.

People: May the earth be restored to the freshness of creation.

Leader: The Lord has appeared on Sinai amid fire and wind.

People: May all people, Jew and Gentile together, climb the holy mountain and see the face of God.

Leader: The confusion of Babel has been undone with the gifts of Pentecost.

People: May our community mature in wisdom as we come to understand the language of the Spirit.

Leader: Our week of weeks is accomplished. Our Fifty Days are complete.

People: May all of us, both the living and the dead, be raised into the splendor of endless Easter.

Leader: Within our Parish we pray for the sick and the suffering, especially (insert names), and for those we name silently or aloud (silence).  We remember those who have died, especially (insert names), for those we name silently or aloud (silence). May we hold before God’s life all in need.

People: Creator God, our lenten ashes have become life-giving fire. We are whole and new again. Help us, like the disciples in Jerusalem, to spill out into the streets to proclaim your wonderful works. This we ask through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
