We Respond to God’s Word

Prayers of the People (Adapted from Susan Sayers)
Out of God’s riches, a great crowd is fed and satisfied from a small offering of food.

Leader: Knowing that our loving God supplies all our needs, let us prat to him now on behalf of the Church and the world. We pray for St. James, Manotick, The Rev. Andrea Thomas, Associate Incumbent St. James, Perth, The Rev. Kenneth Davis St. James, Leitrim All Saints, Greely The Rev. Joan Riding, Interim Priest-in-Charge. We pray for John, our bishop, Arran, our priest and for all clergy and people and their ministries in the Diocese of Ottawa.

People: God, we offer this time and the love of our hearts as we pray for the Church with all its varied ministries; for the youngest to the oldest baptised members; for those of mellow faith and those who struggle with doubts. (Silence)

Leader: Loving God:

People: Give us today our daily bread.

Leader: God, we offer our commitment to pray the news each day and share the pain we read about, longing for your peace and your justice in a world tense with aggression and distorted with selfishness. (Silence)

Leader: Loving God:

People: Give us today our daily bread.

Leader: God, we offer our homes and our relationships for you to work in and transform; we offer you our meetings and conflicts and all differences of opinion for you to use to your glory. (Silence)

Leader: Loving God:

People: Give us today our daily bread.

Leader: God, we offer you our solidarity with all who suffer or are heavily burdened; hear us as we pray for their comfort and refreshment, wholeness and restoration, but above all for the consciousness of your presence in their pain, and your love for them. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud.  (Silence)

Leader: Loving God:

People: give us today our daily bread.

Leader: God, we offer our thanks for lives well lived and faithful souls entering by the gate of physical death to eternal life with you. Prepare us all to meet you face to face. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud. (Silence)

Leader: Loving God:

People: Give us today our daily bread.

Leader: God, we give you our lives as well as our words of praise, so that each moment from now on becomes an offering of love.

Leader: Merciful God,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Communion

Anthem: Panis Angelicus by César Franck

Panis angelicus fit panis hominum;

Dat panis cœlicus figuris terminum:

O res mirabilis! Manducat Dominum

Pauper, Pauper,servus et humilis

May the Bread of Angels become bread for mankind;

The Bread of Heaven puts all foreshadowings to an end;

Oh, thing miraculous! The body of the Lord will nourish

the poor, the poor, the servile, and the humble.

Prayer after Communion

Holy and blessed God,

as you give us the body and blood of your Son,

guide us with your Holy Spirit,

that we may honour you not only with our lips

but also in our lives.

This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
