We Respond to God’s Word

Homily

The Apostles Creed                                                                          page 189

Prayers of the People (Adapted from Susan Sayers)
Christ is the image of the unseen God.

Leader: Our God made us and our universe, and delights in us. Prompted by the Spirit of God in us, let us pray for the work and ministry of the Refugee Ministry Working Group, and its Chair, Don Smith; and for our Diocesan Refugee Ministry Officer, Joyce Couvrette, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pastor Joel Crouse, for the work of The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund. We pray for John, our bishop, Arran, our priest. We pray for all clergy and people and their ministries in the Diocese of Ottawa.

People: We pray for Godly wisdom that is touched by the beauty of creation, delights in the diversity of people, and warms to the possibilities of co-operative prayer and work for the coming of the kingdom. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and Holy God:

People: we are your children.

Leader: We pray for godly wisdom that, in observing symptoms, discerns causes and responds to the real needs; that strives not to control but enable, not to manipulate but empower. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and Holy God:

People: we are your children.

Leader: We pray for the godly wisdom that gives others both space and support, that encourages and guides, that knows when to speak and when to be silent. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and Holy God:

People: we are your children.

Leader: We pray for the godly wisdom that recognises the poverty of the rich and the wealth among the poor; that questions assumptions of worth and cherishes those whom the world discards. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and Holy God:

People: we are your children.

Leader: We pray for the godly wisdom that sees time in the context of eternity, and death as the gateway to heaven.

At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud. (Silence)

Leader: Wise and Holy God:

People: we are your children.

Leader: We pray for the godly wisdom that lives simply and thankfully, rejoicing in all that God is and does.

Leader: Merciful God,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Offertory Hymn: In the Cross of Christ I Glory                              # 537

Prayer over the Gifts

God of all creation,
all you have made is good,
and your love endures forever.
You bring forth bread from the earth
and fruit from the vine.
Nourish us with these gifts,
so that we might be for the world
signs of your gracious presence in Jesus Christ,
our Saviour and Lord. Amen.

The Communion

Anthem: Sicut Cervus by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina

Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.

As a hart longs for the flowing streams, so longs my soul for thee, O God.

Prayer after Communion

We give you thanks, almighty God,
that you have refreshed us
through the healing power of this gift of life.
In your mercy, strengthen us through this gift,
in faith toward you and in fervent love toward one another;
for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
