The Prayers of the People

Leader: We pray today for the Church throughout the world, and in our Diocese for St. James the Apostle, Manotick, for Military Chaplains of our Diocese, and for the Director of Financial Ministry.   In our Companion Diocese of Jerusalem we pray for All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Beirut.  For John our bishop, for all bishops, for Arran our Priest and for all the clergy and people. The God who wants us to walk in peace knows that we need to find that peace.

People: We call on this God of forgiveness to listen to our prayers,

Leader: For hearts that will not judge what is sinful in other people,

People: For minds that will acknowledge injustices to ourselves and oppression in all of its forms,

Leader: For feelings that will allow us to respect the religious commitment of Muslims, Jews, and other Christians, as well as the commitment of nonbelievers to the human family,

People: For wills that are graced with the courage to make visible the presence of Jesus Christ in the church,

Leader: Within our Parish we pray for the sick and the suffering, especially (insert names), and those we name silently or aloud (pause).  We remember those who have died, especially (insert names) and those we name silently or aloud (pause).  For bodies and spirits healed;

People: O Holy One of Israel, God of love and truth, help us to know our own sinfulness and need. Free us from the desire always to be right. Give us the peace of Christ, and carry us forward to care for those in need, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
