Collect of the Day

God of prophets,

Whose word cuts through the webs of power

And holds the tyrant to account:

Be with all who raise their voice against oppression and misrule,

Who are imprisoned and abused for freedom’s sake;

Help us to stand and speak with them

And witness to your kingdom now;

Through Jesus Christ, the name above all others. Amen.

Dr. Peter John Hobbs, Sanjay Grover, Heidi Pizzuto, Stephanie Boyd, Joyce Couvrette, Heidi Danson, Leslie Giddings, Bill Gilbert, Laurette Glasgow, Sandra Purdy, Jane Scanlon, and Oleh Tseluyko. Leader: Holy God, scatter all darkness:

People: and bathe our world in your light.

Leader: Lord God, we pray that many may be empowered to recognise evil and fight against it; to discern your warnings and speak them out; to notice the sparks of love and goodness and celebrate them. (Silence)

Leader: Holy God, scatter all darkness:

People: and bathe our world in your light.

Leader: Lord God, we pray that our households and neighborhoods, our places of work and leisure, may be arenas of praise and thankfulness, not only in the comfort zones but particularly through the disturbed and difficult times. (Silence)

Leader: Holy God, scatter all darkness:

People: and bathe our world in your light.

Leader: Lord God, we pray for those in prison; for those leading cruel and violent lives; for all victims of oppression or abuse; for all who suffer mental anguish or physical pain. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud. (Silence)

Leader: Holy God, scatter all darkness:

People: and bathe our world in your light.

Leader: Lord God, we pray for those who have died, that they, and we in our turn, may be given merciful judgement through Jesus our Saviour, and brought into the unquenchable light of heaven. At this time, we pray for (insert names) and for those who we name silently or aloud.  (Silence)

Leader: Holy God, scatter all darkness:

People: and bathe our world in your light.

Leader: Lord God, we pray for more thankful hearts to bless you, because the gifts we receive from you are so much more than we deserve.

Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

CROSSTALK: Do you have a special event or activity coming up at Trinity? Listing it in Crosstalk is a great way to get the word out to more people. The next issue is in September and the deadline for submissions is July 25th. You can submit your notice online at http/

SPECIAL VESTRY: At the June 19th Vestry meeting a motion was agreed upon: In consideration of the state of Trinity’s finances, it is moved to consult with the Bishop in a timely manner, the option of amalgamation for Trinity Ottawa. It was also agreed that a special Vestry be set for early October.

On June 25th members of corporation, synod representatives and Arran met with Bishop John Chapman to seek his counsel. He has encouraged us to speak to several churches in very broad terms. We are proposing some initial discussions between Trinity’s leaders and other churches in our geographic area. We will address the following: How do we most efficiently offer ministry in our geographic area of (old) Ottawa South;

What efficiencies can be created by worshiping and sharing ministries;

What are our Commonalities/differences.

Although these discussions move beyond the June 19th motion, we believe having this initial information will serve to inform the October Vestry creating opportunity for a fulsome discussion as we further investigate the possibility of Amalgamation. The wardens invite questions. We may not have answers. We ask for your prayers.

EVENSONG: Our next Evensong will be on Sunday August 5th 2018 at 5:30pm.  Roland Graham will conduct a selection of pieces of Renaissance music.
