Offertory Hymn: While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks #136
Prayer of Offering and Thanksgiving: Forever God. Thank you for Jesus, Your Christmas gift to us. Help us to be like the shepherds; help us to see a new kind of love in the birth of Jesus, your Son; and help us to show that love to our friends, to everyone we meet and in everything we do. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Eucharistic Prayer (with special permission of the Bishop)
Celebrant: We thank you, Holy God, that you sent Jesus to be born into this world and live among us. People had turned away from you and no longer loved each other the way you loved us. Jesus opened our eyes and our hearts to your love and now brings us together to this table to remember his love for us and for all people.
The night before he died when Jesus was at supper with his friends, he took bread and gave you thanks, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, saying: “Take, eat: This is my Body which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”
When supper was ended, Jesus took a cup of wine, thanked you, and gave it to his friends saying: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this to remember me.”
Life-giving God, we ask you now to bless these our gifts of bread and wine and make them holy. Fill us with the joy of the Holy Spirit as we receive this bread and wine and then send us out in peace to share your love with the world.
Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honour, glory, and praise, forever and ever. Amen.
Celebrant: And now, as Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:
